National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Ministry of Textiles (Government of India), has invited applications for admission into the following Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programmes in Design, Management & Technology, to be offered in the upcoming session commencing in 2012. Admissions to these programmes will be made on the basis of written entrance examination, to be held on the date mentioned below, followed by a Situation Test/Group Discussion and interview, scheduled for April-May 2012.

NIFT 2012 Eligibility for Bachelor Programs – Design

B.Design ( Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication )

  • The +2 level examination in the 10 + 2 pattern of examination of any recognised Central / State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi. or
  • General Certificate Education ( GCE ) Examination ( London / Cambridge / Sri Lanka ) at the Advanced ( A ) level. or
  • Any Public School / Board / University Examination in India or in Foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10 + 2 system. or
  • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects. or
  • 3 or 4 – years diploma recognised by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
  • Please note that the upper age limit for applying in bachelor Programs is restricted to 23 years as on 1st November, 2011.
NIFT 2012 Eligibility for Bachelor Program – Technology

B.F Tech. ( Apparel Production )

  • The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognised Central / State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. or
  • General Certificate Education ( GCE ) Examination ( London / Cambridge / Sri Lanka ) at the advanced ( A ) level with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. or
  • Any Public School / Board / University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10 + 2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. or
  • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. or
  • 3 or 4 – years diploma recognised by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education ( Engineering background ).
  • Candidate must be pass in Physics, Chemistry & Maths.
  • Please note that the upper age limit for applying in bachelor Programs is restricted to 23 years as on 1st November, 2011.

NIFT 2012 Eligibility for Master Program – Design


M.Des. ( Master of Design )

  • Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India. or
  • Diploma in UG Design from NIFT / NID only. ( Design Space is an advanced course that demands an understanding of fundamentals in design & presupposes that candidates would be familiar with the basic skills and theories for successful completion of the program NIFT program would not provide any basic knowledge & skill development in design as a part of Master program )

NIFT 2012 Eligibility for Master Program – Management

M.F.M. ( Master of Fashion Management )

  • Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognised by law in India. or Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.
NIFT 2012 Eligibility for Master Program – Technology

M.F Tech. ( Master of Fashion Technology )

  • B.F.Tech. from NIFT. or
  • B.E / B.Tech. from any Institute / University recognised by law in India.

National Institute of Fashion Technology Important Note

1. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply provided :

  1. That they are able to produce the proof of having acquired minimum prescribed qualifications at the time of counselling / admission. or
  2. If the 12th class / final year / final semester ( as the case may be ) result of qualifying degree / certificate examination is not declared by the concerned Board / University till the date of counselling / admission, his / her admission in that case will be strictly provisional subject to the following conditions :
  3. Affidavit on non – judicial stamp paper of  10/- in the prescribed Proforma is submitted. In case the candidate is minor i.e. below 18 years of age, the affidavit shall be signed by his / her parent / guardian. Candidates / parent / guardians may note that submission of false affidavit is a punishable offence;
  4. The candidate will have to submit the final result of qualifying degree / certificate providing his / her eligibility on or before 30th September, 2012 to their Centre Director / Registrar where the admission has been granted.
  5. In case the candidate fails to submit his / her final result of qualifying degree in the manner as prescribed at to prove his / her eligibility on or before 30th September, 2012, whatsoever the reason may be, his / her admission will be treated as null and void ( cancelled ) and entire fee will be forfeited. Any exception will be as per decision of DG on case to case basis.
  6. The Centre Director / Registrar will be responsible to ensure that the eligibility of all students are checked by them to ensure correctness of admission specially incase of provisional students. The provisional admission will automatically stand cancelled if the candidate fails to submit result in time i.e. 30th September, 2012.
  7. Those candidates who are seeking provisional admission due to non – declaration of their final year / final semester / 12th class will have to provide proof of having passed all papers in all the previous years /semesters of qualifying degree examination ( whichever relevant ).
  8. The candidates will also bring the datesheet /admit card / principal’s certificate as proof of having appeared in the qualifying exam.
  9. Candidates who have appeared for compartment / Supplementary examination ( s ) in the 12th standard or final semester / final year of graduation and the result of the same is not declared by the time of counseling / admission, such candidates will be considered for admission, for the academic session 2012 – 13.
2. Any candidate who has not appeared for the qualifying exam before the date of counselling / admission to NIFT, will not be eligible.

3. It is further clarified that provisional admission will be considered only in such cases where the result of Final year / semester of the qualifying degree has not been declared by the concerned Board / University in its totality. In case the result has been declared by the concerned Board / University but it has not been declared in a specific case, for any reason, such cases will not be considered under provisional admission category.

The seats reserved for SC / ST / Physically Handicapped Candidates ( PHP ) / Foreign Nationals / SAARC / NRI, in each program are as under :

  • SC – 15%
  • ST – 7.5%
  • OBC – 27%
  • Physically Handicapped ( with 40% or more disability ) – 3% Horizontal reservation for physically handicapped candidates cutting across all sections i.e. SCs, STs, OBCs Non – Creamy and General category. Centres and programs will be allotted on rotation, at the discretion of NIFT
  • Foreign Nationals / SAARC / NRI – 15% ( supernumerary )
  • State Domiciles – 20% ( supernumerary )

How To Apply

1. Fill the NIFT Application Form Online

1.1. Download the Admission Guidelines from the NIFT Website www.nift.ac.in for information and record.

1.2. NIFT Demand Draft for Application Form 2012 :

You will need to provide certain details from the DD at the time of online submission of application form. You must have the Demand Draft ready before filling up NIFT application form.

If You belong to General / OBC Category, you are required to obtain a Demand Draft for  1250/- drawn in favour of “National Institute of Fashion Technology payable at New Delhi”, before submission of the Application.
If You belong to SC / ST or a Person with Disabilities, you are required to obtain a Demand Draft for 750/- drawn in favour of ‘National Institute of Fashion Technology’ payable at New Delhi , before submission of the Application.
If You are applying under Foreign Nationals / SAARC / NRI category, you are required to obtain a Demand Draft for US $100 /- drawn in favour of “National Institute of Fashion Technology payable at New Delhi”, India before submission of the Application.

1.3. NIFT application can be submitted by a candidate only once and against only one of the Programs which means candidate has only one choice of selection of one of the Programs offered on this website. Hence, you are advised to apply for the program, most suiting to your Qualification.

1.4. Fill the NIFT Online Application Form 2012 :

Since your eligibility will be screened based on the information furnished by you, you are required to exercise sufficient care to correctly furnish the details of your Qualification, etc.

1.5. After filling the form correctly, submit the same by clicking the button “SUBMIT” where by the data filled by you will be captured.

1.6. On successful submission of online application form, a unique auto generated Application Form for NIFT Number will be allotted which will appear on print version of the application form.

1.7. Please save the print version of application form using “Save as” function and after that you should take the print out.

1.8. You must keep an additional print out of the NIFT Entrance Exam 2012 Application Form for all future references.

1.9. After taking the print out, affix your passport size photograph in the space provided and attach the demand draft of requisite amount with the print version of application.



2. Despatch of NIFT Application Form 2012

2.1. Make the set of the following documents :

Print out of the filled National Institute of Fashion Technology Online Application Form with auto generated Application Form Number with your photograph affixed and duly signed. On the back of Demand Draft please fill the following details

  • Your Name
  • Auto generated Application Form Number given by NIFT
  • Program applied
2.2. Send the above set of documents by 10th January 2012 :

NIFT Exam application received after last date will be rejected.


3. National Institute of Fashion Technology 2012 Admit Cards

  • On the basis of information given in the NIFT Application Form, Admit Card of provisionally eligible candidates will be despatched to the address mentioned in the Application Form. The admit cards for provisionally eligible candidates shall be despatched by 28th January 2012.
  • In case of non – receipt of Admit Cards, the candidates can download the Admit Card from the NIFT website http://www.nift.ac.in on or before 11th February, 2012.
  • On such downloaded admit cards, the candidates are required to affix their photograph ( similar to that affixed on the Application Form ) on the downloaded Admit Card and get it attested by a Gazetted Officer / School or College Principal for producing at the Examination Centre.
  • Candidate without the admit card or downloaded admit card without the photograph and attestation will not be permitted to appear in NIFT Written Entrance Examination 2012.
